先日幕を閉じた東京国際映画祭。
第２０回を記念した特別企画「映画が見た東京」の一作品「地下広場」を見てまいりました。

第２０回を記念した特別企画「映画が見た東京」の一作品「地下広場」を見てまいりました。

１９６９年２月から新宿西口の地下広場に、歌で反戦を訴える「フォークゲリラ」と呼ばれる若者が立ち始め、そこに次第に市民や学生が加わる集会の五千人を超える大群衆の動きを克明に追ったドキュメント。しかし「広場」は「通路」と名前を変え、やがて警官隊と群衆は激突。街は市街戦の様相を帯びてくる

そのフィルムは、１９７２年新宿近辺の生まれ、上の世代から「覇気がない」といわれる世代の私にとっては大衝撃だったのです。
広場を埋め尽くす人の群れが力の限り声を合わせ、肩を組み横に揺れ大合唱する様、街のそこここで異論反論を重ねあわせる市民の様、その熱気と活気は、ふだんより漠然と「社会がこうであったらいいなあ」と夢想していた光景。（注：どちらかと言えば「今」にノれない「熱くるしい」私であります）
なにより新宿西口の風景がほとんど変わっていないことが意外でした。知らない時代とはいえ慣れ親しんでいるその場所で起こった出来事を目の当たりにすると、それは決して「昔のこと」ではなく「昨日のこと」のような距離で私に迫ってきました。心がふるえ胸がしめつけられました。ほんとに。
警官隊によって「地下広場」の「広場」の部分に白いガムテープが貼られ「通路」と上書きされた標識、「立ち止まらないで下さい立ち止まらないで下さい立ち止まらないで歩いて下さい」と連呼する拡声器の声、ラッシュアワーに行き来する人の波・・・そのラストシーンは私のよく知る今日の「通路」でした。
"情報"として当時の学生運動の話は耳にしていたものの、残念ながら、どうやってもそれを「遠い昔の出来事」としてしか捉えることができなかったし、自分の事と関連がつかなかった。でも、この映画を見たらそれがつながった。ような気がしました。
この映画のことは大木晴子さんがインフォメーションしてくださいました。
晴子さんは「マガジン９条」がスタートしてすぐ、まだ読者がほんの少しのころにいち早く応援にかけつけてくださった方で、４年ほど前から毎週土曜の夕刻、まさにその新宿西口で反戦の意思表示をされています。
そしてこの「地下広場」のフィルムには、今と変わらぬ凛とした溌剌な少女の晴子さんが何度も映し出されていました。
わたしは居ても立ってもいられず土曜の夕方新宿へ行きました。
まずはぐるっとしげしげと西口周辺をながめ、晴子さんを探し見つけた時は涙がこぼれそうになりました。なぜかしら。
それを押さえながら映画の感動をお伝えしました。そして「手ぶらで来るのもためらわれ」と用意した自分なりの言葉を広げ、いっしょに立たせていただくことに。いやはや。
はじめはほんの少しだけ緊張したけれど、２時間は無心に過ぎました。仲間の人たちがあるおかげで立てました。
これからこのスタンディングの輪が段々に拡張し、誰もがみな思い思いの言葉を掲げ、それを周囲が「〇〇系」などと分類できない様なゾーンになったら面白いなあ〜と、夢想しました。
