スポーツだけができるからって、良い高校に入って、良い大学に入って、良い会社に入って・・・なんて人を認められない僕ですけれど、「健全な精神は健全な肉体に宿る」なんて言葉を、素直に信じられない僕ですが、ワシントンの紳士ぶりは２００％信じています。
無論、この「２００％信じる」という言葉は、どこかの弁護士のように撤回したりはしません。
今シーズン、ブラジルからやってきたエースFWは、何度となくドイツ人監督と衝突した。
「僕が残るか、監督が残るか」と、ワシントンはぼやいていたと言います。
そして、監督が残り、ワシントンは去りました。
「僕のクビにした監督を救ったのが悔しい。監督と問題がなければ1年間、今日のようなプレーができた」
クラブワールドカップで3位を獲得したあと、ワシントンはインタビューで、こう答えました。
