私が子供のころ、父は労働者演劇運動をしていました。単純化して言ってしまえば、演劇を通して、世の中をよくしていこうとするムーブメントです。いまではほとんど死滅してしまいましたが。
定期公演が近くなると、父は家に帰らなくなります。芝居というのはお金がかかりますから、給与から家に入れるお金も少なくなる。そこで両親は、というか母からの一方的な攻撃になり、母の最後の決まり文句はたいてい、
家族も幸せにできないで、何が世界の平和よッ！
これを言われると父はぐうの音も出ず、黙るしかありません。私は、母のとどめの一撃を聞きながら、「正論だけど、世の中、正論だけじゃないからなあ」と父に同情していたのですが、最近、勇ましいことを言う政治家や、日本や世界について朗々と論じる評論家の人たちを見るにつけ、母の気持ちがわかるようになりました。
郵政民営化がどーだ、こーだと口角泡を飛ばす政治家の人たちって、郵便局に行ったことがあるんだろうか？ 深刻な顔をして派遣切りを憂うニュースキャスターは、テレビ会社が下請けの制作会社を安いギャラでこき使っているのを知っているのだろうか？
足元のことをすっ飛ばして、天下国家を論じてしまう人を観ると、私は「オヤジ」だなあと思ってしまう。えてして「オヤジ」は、日常の小さな問題に対する解決能力が低いから（これは自戒を込めて）。
宮崎県知事の東国原さんの最近の言動ぶりに、私は「オヤジ」っぽさを感じています。地方分権を実現するために国政に出るって、どうなんだろう？ 地に足つけて、地元で起こる問題を解決していくというのは、彼にとっては地味すぎる仕事なのだろうか？
地域の人々の陳情を聞き、議会との折衝を重ねるなど、いろいろな細事を、部下を使いながら片付けていく。いずれ国政にと思っているのであれば、こうした経験をもっと積んだ方が、長い目で見ればいいのではないかと私は思うのですが。というか、長い目なんてないか。
